Dr. Alex Oldman BMBS. BSc (Hons). MSc. FRCA.
Founder and Intensive Care Lead
Alex has trained in Medicine at the University of Southampton, and Medical Sociology at Kings College London. He is a current higher trainee in anaesthesia within the prestigous Wessex Deanery in the United Kingdom. Alex has a passion for applying evidence based medicine to his chosen field of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, where he holds multiple publications in the research field of oxygen function and physiology and is a member of the Cochrane Collaboration. Clinically Alex has spent 7 years training in anaesthesia and gained research experience overseas in Gondar, Ethiopia. He is now working towards his consultancy in anaesthetics with a specialist focus in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, and Global Health. Alex now wants to bring his almost 2 decades of training to communities in need of better emergency and perioperative care.
Dr. Amy Hutton MBChB. PGDip. MRCEM.
Founder and Emergency Medicine Lead
Amy is an Emergency Medicine Registrar with 6 years of experience in acute medicine. She graduated from Liverpool Medical School in 2016 and later returned to the Tropical School to achieve a Post Graduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She has a deep rooted passion for promoting health equality and has hosted health education sessions for asylum seekers in the UK as well as enjoying placements internationally in Vietnam, India, and France, where she led a team providing medical care to refugee communities. She is also a keen educator, running clinical components of the medical undergraduate curriculum and teaching Advanced Life Support at instructor level. She hopes to bring her experience in emergency care, education, and public health to promote and improve equal access to healthcare globally.
Abhash is a Senior Registrar in Anaesthetics based at University Hospital Southampton. He obtained his medical degree from Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) under Kathmandu University and completed advanced training in Anaesthetics and Critical Care at the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Dharan. To expand his expertise, Abhash undertook roles as a Senior Trainee across various NHS Trusts in the UK, and he is now progressing toward becoming a Consultant in Anaesthetics. With over a decade of clinical experience, he has a strong commitment to quality improvement initiatives, actively contributes to teaching and learning activities, and has recently developed a keen interest in Global Health.

Specialist Charity Advisor to the Executive Team
Dr Crystal Oldman CBE is the current Chief Executive of the Queens Nursing Institute (QNI), a national charity that promotes high-quality nursing care across the UK. Crystal has worked in the NHS for 18 years, the majority of which was in the field of community nursing, working with some of the most deprived communities in the UK. Crystal enjoyed an academic career for a further 18 years, completing her Higher Education career as Dean of Enterprise and Business Management in the Faculty of Society & Health, where her role included the development of partnerships with external agencies to promote research and assist in workforce development. She was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2017 for services to community nursing and her leadership of the QNI. In 2020, she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing and in 2023 she became a Trustee of the independent health think tank, The Nuffield Trust. She now takes on the role as Specialist Charity Advisor to the OCEAN Executive Team, helping secure funding and advise on the strategic management of future projects.
Alyssa J. Young MSPH. PhD (candidate).
Specialist Global Health Advisor to the Executive Team
Alyssa J. Young, MSPH, PhD (candidate) is an Infectious disease epidemiologist, tropical disease specialist, and health data scientist. She has over 15 years of experience in developing and implementing international infectious disease programs, and conducting clinical and epidemiological research across Africa and the Caribbean. As a regional epidemiologist in Haiti, she advised Ministries of Health on effective targeting, implementation, and evaluation of large-scale malaria surveillance and vector control programs throughout Mesoamerica and Hispaniola. She has also provided direct support to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in modeling access to healthcare to improve the interpretation of routinely collected health data. Ms. Young also was a technical advisor and clinical research manager in Sierra Leone during the 2014-2016 West African Ebola Virus Outbreak, as well as a public health advisor and malaria epidemiologist with the United States Peace Corps in northern Benin. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Tropical Medicine at Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, LA. She comes to the OCEAN team as a Specialist Global Health Advisor, applying her expertise and wealth of experience in Lower and Middle Income Countries to help the executive team navigate OCEAN’s Global Health projects.
