Our new fellows will be the first cohort to be deployed in Nepal in 2027; contributing to quality improvement and clinical care in BPKIHs, Dharan, and Manipal Hospital, Pokhara.

Dr. Claudia Gardiner

Anaesthetics Global Health Fellow (Dharan 2027)

Claudia is a specialist trainee in anaesthesia with significant experience in global health, education, and health advocacy. She completed the Specialist Hereford Anaesthetic Remote and Pre-hospital (SHARP) clinical fellowship in Global Health at Hereford County Hospital and holds the prestigious Diploma of Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries.

Active in international medical governance, Claudia serves on the committee of the World Anaesthesia Society and leads as the current editor of the World Anaesthesia Newsletter. Her professional profile is driven by a strong commitment to postgraduate teaching, quality improvement, and clinical research in resource-limited and remote environments. Outside of clinical practice, Claudia is an avid open-water swimmer, hiker, and reader.

As an inaugural OCEAN Fellow, she is looking forward to deploying to Dharan, Nepal, in 2027 to collaborate with local teams and combine her experience in remote care, medical education, and global health.

Dr. David Humphries

Emergency Medicine Global Health Fellow (Dharan 2027)

David is an Emergency Medicine trainee based in the North of Scotland. He holds a medical degree from the University of Sheffield, where he also earned a Master’s in Public Health and International Development.

Before specialising in emergency care, David conducted global health research in Uganda leading a comprehensive health needs assessment for young people living with HIV alongside a local NGO. He also delivered humanitarian medical support in refugee camps across Greece.

Dedicated to medical education, David regularly instructs on advanced life support and trauma courses. He holds a particular interest in human factors and non-technical skills training in high-pressure clinical environments.

David will join OCEAN as one of its inaugural Global Health Fellows in Dharan, Nepal in 2027, integrating his expertise in clinical emergency care, global public health, and medical education.
